The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, has reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s capability to confront and neutralize the country’s evolving security threats, emphasizing the force’s commitment to modern warfare strategies.
Speaking at the maiden Senior Command and Leadership Seminar in Lafia, Nasarawa State, on Tuesday, Lt.-Gen. Oluyede, represented by Maj.-Gen. Abubakar Sadiq-Ndalolo, Chief of Training at Army Headquarters, Abuja, underscored the importance of continuous training to enhance operational efficiency of the officers.
Our correspondent reports that the seminar, hosted by the Army 4 Special Forces in Doma, aimed at equipping senior officers with advanced combat and leadership skills to address emerging security challenges.
Acknowledging the sacrifices of troops in maintaining national security, the COAS assured them of sustained welfare initiatives, including advanced training and the provision of modern military hardware.
“The Nigerian Army must be prepared to confront these challenges head-on, using innovative tactics and strategies to defeat those causing havoc in the country,” he stated.
With security threats ranging from insurgency, banditry, and terrorism to cross-border militancy and kidnappings, the Army, according to the COAS, is adapting to contemporary warfare demands.
He revealed plans to establish a Special Forces Training School in Doma, to sharpen combat readiness and develop specialized military units.
The Army 4 Special Forces Commander, Maj.-Gen. Hilary Nzan, emphasized the importance of inter-agency collaboration in tackling the nation’s security threats, noting that effective partnerships remain crucial to achieving long-term stability.
Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State, represented by his Deputy, Emmanuel Akabe, pledged continued support to the military and security agencies, including the provision of operational vehicles and logistics to enhance their effectiveness.
As the Army intensifies efforts to safeguard Nigeria’s territorial integrity, Lt.-Gen. Oluyede urged officers to remain steadfast in upholding the core values of discipline, professionalism, and selflessness in their mission to secure the nation.
