Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals has announced a plan to refund customers who purchase Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) at prices exceeding the advertised rates set by its key partners, including AP (Ardova Plc), Heyden, and MRS, across Nigeria.
This announcement follows the refinery’s recent price adjustment, reducing the gantry price of PMS from N890 per litre to N825 per litre. The refinery emphasized that this decision aligns with its goal of ensuring that Nigerians benefit from more affordable fuel, supporting the broader objectives of Nigeria’s economic development under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
In a statement issued, Dangote Refinery clarified that it would refund N65 per litre on over 200,000 metric tonnes of PMS purchased at the previous rate of N890 per litre, before the new rate of N825 per litre took effect. The refinery also confirmed that it absorbed a significant N16bn loss to ensure that Nigerians would benefit from this price reduction.
“This initiative, which began on February 27, 2025, guarantees that our business partners will not bear a loss due to the price change. Most importantly, it ensures that the new, lower price is implemented nationwide to benefit Nigerians,” the statement said.
Dangote further called on other fuel marketers who source their supply from the refinery to ensure that the price reduction is reflected in their retail prices. The refinery also stressed the importance of ensuring that the benefits of this reduction are passed directly to consumers.
The refinery expressed its firm stance against price manipulation and profiteering, stating, “It is both unpatriotic and harmful to Nigerians for any party to purchase fuel at the new N825 per litre rate and then sell it for N945 or more per litre. This kind of price exploitation burdens the Nigerian people unnecessarily.”
Consumers who find themselves paying above the advertised rates at any of the key partners—MRS, Heyden, or AP—are encouraged to report the overcharge to Dangote Refinery, along with their receipts, for a full refund.
The approved retail prices, which reflect the new gantry price of N825 per litre, are set at N860 in Lagos, N870 in the South-West, N880 in the North, and N890 in the South-South and South-East for MRS; while prices for Heyden and AP are slightly higher at N865 in Lagos, N875 in the South-West, N885 in the North, and N895 in the South-South and South-East.
Dangote Refinery assures the Nigerian public that no customer should pay more than N900 per litre for PMS, regardless of their location or petrol station. Additionally, the refinery has reaffirmed its commitment to providing high-quality, eco-friendly fuel that benefits vehicle performance and contributes to public health.
“This initiative is in line with the objectives of the Renewed Hope Agenda, which seeks to promote energy self-sufficiency in Nigeria. We remain committed to supporting Nigeria’s economic growth and ensuring that every Nigerian has access to affordable, high-quality energy solutions,” the refinery concluded.
Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals reiterated its dedication to contributing to Nigeria’s long-term energy security and economic prosperity.
