Forum commends Kogi Assembly for quality legislation, Gov.Ododo for visionary, good governance

The Kogi Central For Peace and Development Initiative, also known as the Kogi Central Think Tank Forum,has commended the Kogi State House of Assembly for quality legislation.

The gathering, which took place in Lokoja, saw the attendance of the Kogi State House of Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Aliyu Umar Yusuf, and his entourage.

Dr. Haroun Opotu Yussuff, the President of the forum, praised the Kogi State House of Assembly for its commitment to passing high-quality legislation that directly benefits the people of the state.

He underscored the importance of legislative action in unlocking the true potential of democracy and fostering socio-economic development of kogi state.

The Forum also expressed its appreciation for Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo’s visionary leadership.

Dr. Yussuff expressed delight that Ododo’s administration has shown remarkable dedication to the welfare of Kogians, regardless of ethnic, political, or cultural backgrounds and promised continued support of the Forum to the success of the state government.

The forum reaffirmed its readiness to provide vital support and continued constructive advice to both the legislative and executive branches to help advance governance and deliver greater democratic dividends.

Dr. Yussuff disclosed that the Kogi Central For Peace and Development Initiative was established in 2008.

He recalled that the Forum has advised the government on issues relating to youth development,the need for , peace,especially in the central district the imperative of completing the Ajaokuta Steel Project among others.

According to him, the organization has brought together a diverse and influential group of individuals, including retired public servants such permanent secretaries, directors, prominent politicians, successful business people, esteemed academics, professionals, and other respected community members.

Dr. Yussuff said that the forum serves as a platform to discuss and offer meaningful solutions for the development of Kogi State, with a focus on driving positive change and progress in the region.

He emphasized the integrity and proven achievements of its members, stressing their ability to contribute significantly to the socio-economic and political development of the state.

In response, Speaker Rt. Hon. Aliyu Umar Yusuf commended the forum for its significant role in the state’s progress. He encouraged the members to continue offering honest, constructive feedback to the state government, reinforcing the ongoing commitment to enhancing good governance under Governor Ododo’s leadership.

As a gesture of support, the Speaker also pledged a generous donation of N500,000 to the forum.

He reiterated the Assembly’s commitment to enacting impactful laws that will improve the living standards of Kogi’s citizens, advocating for a boost in funding to the State Pension Commission to address outstanding pension arrears.

The event featured an insightful lecture by Dr. Azuzuku, who delved into the cultural and spiritual contributions of prominent figures in the history of Egbiraland, shedding light on their lasting impact.

In a call to preserve local heritage, retired Col. Simpa Mohammed urged Egbira parents to prioritize teaching their children the Egbira language.

He stressed the importance of cultural identity, noting that knowledge of one’s indigenous language provides a deeper connection to one’s roots.

The occasion was filled with memorable moments, including a captivating performance by the forum’s president, Dr. Yussuff, and another member, Alhaji A.K Abdulkarim, who entertained the gathering with melodious and soulful Egbira songs.

Attendees also enjoyed a spread of delicious meals and refreshing drinks, making the gathering both enriching and enjoyable.

The event also attracted several key figures, including members of the state Assembly’s minority leader such as Hon. Bode Ogunmola who is also a member of the Forum and other invited guests who contributed to the vibrant and rewarding social gathering.

Our correspondent reports that the Kogi Central Think Tank Forum’s gathering successfully underscored the importance of collaboration between the state’s legislative, executive, and civil society sectors in building a brighter future for Kogi State.
