The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Ogun 1 Area Command, on Tuesday transferred 1,165 parcels of Cannabis Sativa to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
The handover took place at Idiroko, Ogun State, with NCS Area Comptroller Mr. Mohammed Shuaibu presenting the seized drugs to Mr. Olusegun Adeyeye, Commander of the NDLEA’s Idiroko Special Area Command.
Shuaibu explained that the transfer was part of ongoing inter-agency collaboration to tackle drug trafficking.
The seized cannabis include.780 coconut-sized parcels, 225 book-sized parcels, and 160 bread-sized parcels.
“This handover underscores our commitment to strengthening partnerships with security agencies to combat drug trafficking and foster a safer society,” Shuaibu said.
In response, Adeyeye commended the NCS for its efforts and success in curbing drug trafficking. He highlighted the devastating social consequences of drug abuse, including increased crime and the destruction of lives.
The NDLEA commander assured that the seized drugs would be destroyed, while the investigation and prosecution of suspects would follow. He also emphasized the need for collective action in the fight against drug trafficking.
