Lady, boyfriend, 2 others arrested in Anambra for allegedly killing 74-year-old disabled woman

A 21-year-old lady, Chinenye Ekwenugo, has confessed to participating in the gruesome murder of a 74-year-old disabled woman in Abagana, Anambra State,in a chilling case of brutal violence.

Our correspondent gathered that the elderly victim, who was confined to a wheelchair, was reportedly burned alive on January 26, 2024.

Police operatives from the Abagana Divisional Headquarters swiftly arrested Ekwenugo, alongside three other suspects: Uzochukwu Okeke (47), Fidel Anayo (60), and Ikenna Anene (54).

The group allegedly burned the woman’s body, intending to bury her remains in a casket.

Authorities recovered the charred remains, the wheelchair, and the casket at the crime scene.

In a statement by SP.Tochukwu Ikenga, the Police Public Relations Officer,PPRO,for Anambra State, revealed that Ekwenugo confessed her involvement and implicated her boyfriend, Ifeanyi Igwe, who is currently on the run.

The PPRO said that the Police have launched a manhunt for Igwe and continue to investigate the horrific incident.

Our correspondent reports that the victim’s identity remains undisclosed, and her remains have been sent for autopsy.

The Commissioner of Police in the state,CP.Nnaghe Obono Itam, urged the public to remain calm as a thorough investigation into the case unfolds.
