Niger State Government has partnered with Chinese firms to enhance agricultural productivity and reduce post-harvest losses.
The collaboration focuses on leveraging advanced agro-industrial processing technologies from China to improve the quality and pest resistance of agricultural products.
Abubakar Usman, Secretary to the State Government (SSG), revealed this after leading a delegation to Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zone facilities in Chengdu, Mianyang, and Deyang City, Sichuan Province.
Our correspondent gathered that the visit aimed to foster knowledge exchange, facilitate technology transfer, and attract investment to Niger State.
Speaking about the initiative, Usman emphasized that adopting China’s successful agro-industrial strategies could significantly boost food security, create jobs, and stimulate economic growth in the state.
He described the partnership as a strategic move to enhance the living standards of Niger’s citizens.
“The visit enabled us to establish terms for the Niger State Special Agro-Industrial Processing Corridor, which has the potential to attract significant investments, promote agricultural development, and elevate the state’s competitiveness in global markets,” Usman said.
The SSG said that this collaboration aligns with Governor Umar Bago’s New Niger Agenda, which seeks to modernize agriculture, reduce poverty, and improve overall economic conditions.
He said that by adopting modern processing technologies, Niger State aims to minimize post-harvest losses, improve product quality, and drive sustainable growth in the agricultural sector.
