A new political pressure group, ‘Itesiwaju Mainland,’ has emerged in the Mainland Local Government Area of Lagos State, aiming to galvanize support for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the upcoming local government elections.
The group held its inaugural meeting on Thursday at the Hubert Macaulay Primary School in Adekunle, drawing hundreds of residents from all eleven wards of the local government.
The Interim Chairman, Prince Aliyu Momoh,outlined the group’s objectives, emphasizing the importance of mobilizing residents for active political participation.
He stressed the need to engage with local leaders and address grievances related to perceived marginalization within the political landscape.
“Our elders have agreed to support us in this effort,” Momoh stated, underscoring the group’s commitment to fostering dialogue and unity among community members,” he said.
Momoh also addressed rumors suggesting that a federal lawmaker had sponsored the group’s formation, insisting that the initiative is grassroots-driven.
“Nobody is sponsoring us. We are pooling our personal resources to mobilize the community,” he affirmed, emphasizing the group’s mission to improve the welfare of residents who have long felt neglected.
He said the formation of Itesiwaju Mainland aims to enhance the delivery of democratic dividends while promoting peaceful coexistence among various interest groups in the area.
Momoh condemned politics of bitterness and thuggery, reaffirming the group’s dedication to peaceful political engagement.
At the meeting, Mr. Kola Atanda reported a strong turnout, with around 850 residents registering to support the group’s initiatives.
Leaders from various sectors of the community, including Prince Abiodun Jones Okanlomo and Mrs. Bose Benson, participated, collectively advocating for unity and decorum in political discourse.
As Itesiwaju Mainland moves forward, its leaders are optimistic about their ability to address local grievances and ensure that the benefits of governance reach all corners of the Mainland Local Government Area.
