90-year-old association in kogi elects new exco.

The Okengwe Development Association, Lokoja branch, on Saturday elected new executive council members to pilot its affairs for the next three years.

The Chairman, Electoral Committee ,Mr.Sunday Advice,(standing advising the exco , flanked members of the committee,after he inaugurated them at Bala Unity House, Lokoja.

The election conducted by a three-man election committee, chaired by Mr.Sunday Adive, members elected the officers through affirmation in a peaceful manner.

At the end of the election,the Chief Returning Officer,Chief Steve Salau, announced Dr.Haroun Opotu Yussuff as the President, Mal.Zubair Abdullahi,Vice President and Mr.Mike Ejivabe, Secretary.

Other elected officers are:Assistant Secretary, Isiaka Ibrahim, Alhaji D.U Ahmed,Publicity Secretary, Financial Secretary,Mr. Amugu, Internal Auditor, Sunday Onoko while the post of Treasurer went to Kubura Isah.

Both Chairman of the election committee and the Chief Returning Officer, expressed delight over the peaceful conduct of the election and commended for the mature way they conducted the election.

Mr. Adive advised members of the new exco to see themselves as executing the aims and objectives of the association in unison, thereby making unity of purpose the cardinal principle of their administration.

In his acceptance speech, the President thanked members for reposing absolute confidence in the ability of the new exco to take the association to the next level of meaningful development.

Dr.Yussuff, who promised that his exco would not betray members’trust in giving the new exco such a sensitive responsibility,however, urged them solicited for their cooperation.

He also urged members to factor in the need for prompt and timely attendance of the monthly meeting.

Dr. Yussuff, the former Chairman of the association’s Caretaker Committee, stated that the commitment of the members would motivate the new executive to give their best in leading the association’s activities in the state.

Our correspondent reports that the Okengwe Development Association, established in 1934, has several achievements to its credit, including the establishment of a community bank, schools, and other community projects.

The President General of ODA Dr. (Daudu) Ahmed Yusuf, expressed delight over the peaceful election.
He said,” This is a fulfillment of my dream as President General, to see Lokoja branch of ODA under the able leadership of astute administrators which will consequently attract the active participation of numerous Sons and Daughters of Okengwe residing in Lokoja.

” Being the seat of our State government, ODA Lokoja is expected to be the engine room of ODA.

” I therefore urge the new executive members to justify the confidence reposed on them by the Good People of Lokoja branch of ODA. I want you to count on my support for the remaining time I have left in office as PG, God’s willing.

“Congratulations and wishing you a successful tenure of office. I want to equally congratulate our elders and all those who have worked hard to keep the flag flying till this time.

” By the grace of God, their selfless services and sacrifices shall not end in vain.”
