The Federal Government has approved a significant increase in the monthly allowance for corps members, raising it from N33,000 to N77,000 starting July 2024.
This announcement was made on Wednesday via the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) official Facebook page.
According to a statement, the increase aligns with the National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act 2024, as noted in a letter from the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, signed by Chairman Mr. Ekpo Nta on September 25, 2024.
The statement read:“The Federal Government has approved the increment of Corps Members’ monthly allowance to Seventy-Seven Thousand Naira (N77,000) with effect from July 2024.
“This is in line with the enactment of the National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act 2024.”
“This is contained in a letter from the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, dated 25th September 2024 and signed by the Chairman, Mr. Ekpo Nta”.
The NYSC Director General,Brigadier General YD Ahmed, previously advocated for improved welfare for corps members during a visit to the Commission.
He expressed gratitude to the Federal Government for this timely decision, emphasizing that it would provide much-needed support and enhance the morale of corps members in their national service.
