An 18-year-old boy, Olawumi Ayomide, and his gang of thieves set a house ablaze after stealing foodstuffs, groceries, and clothing in the Gaa-Akanbi area of Ilorin, Kwara State.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, around 12:11 p.m. at No. 59, Afenifere Community, Onireke.

The Head of Media and Publicity for the Kwara State Fire Service, PFO Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, disclosed this in a statement he signed in Ilorin on Wednesday.

He said:”The Kwara State Fire Service responded swiftly, but by the time the fire was brought under control within 25 minutes, two rooms in the three-bedroom bungalow had already been destroyed.

” Items lost in the fire include a mattress, valuable documents, a plasma TV, and clothing.

“Investigations revealed that the gang set the house on fire after being caught by residents. In a bid to escape, Ayomide, one of the three gang members, stabbed a resident twice before being apprehended by the community.

“The chairman community, Mr. Azeez Jamiu, handed Ayomide over to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Tanke Division”.

The Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, urged the public to remain vigilant and prioritize safety at all times.
