The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) destroyed seven hectares of hemp farms and arrested three suspects in Kogi .
NDLEA Kogi Commander, Alhaji Umar Yahuza, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lokoja on Wednesday.
He revealed that three hectares of the hemp farms were located in Ikeje Forest, while the remaining four hectares were discovered in Maikeke Village, Igalamela/Odolu Local Government Area.
According to him, during the operation, three suspects were apprehended at Ikeje Forest, though the owner of the four-hectare farm in Maikeke Village managed to escape.
Yahuza said that this significant operation was part of the agency’s week-long “Zero Tolerance to Illicit Drugs” initiative in Kogi East.
“The discoveries were based on intelligence reports we received.
“Our officers acted on August 9 and August 19 to target these farms. We are actively pursuing the escaped suspect to ensure his arrest and prosecution. The impact of these drug activities on local communities is devastating.
“NDLEA is committed to combating drug abuse and trafficking in the state. We plan to search every corner of Kogi to apprehend drug traffickers and manufacturers to deter others from similar illegal activities,” Yahuza said.
He, therefore,urged the public to support the agency’s efforts in fighting drug consumption and trafficking, which are severely affecting many youths.
