Business woman loses N100,000 worth of kunu to prolonged power outage in Lokoja.

A small scale business woman in Lokoja,seller kunu, a locally produced beverage, has lamented that her kunu, worth over N100,000 she kept in the fridge had gone sour due to the ongoing prolonged power outage in Lokoja, Kogi state.

She disclosed this this to the correspondent of The Reporters in Lokoja on Sunday during a chat.

“The effect of the current power outage, especially in Lokoja, is nothing to write home about.

” I recently lost kunu worth over N100,000 because of the ongoing prolonged power outage in Lokoja.

“The product could not have lost its potency for freshness and taste harden been we have constant light to power my fridge.

“I have to dispose it off as soon as I noticed that it was no more unhealthy for public consumption and sale,” she said

The seller,who would not want her identity veiled,regretted that power outage in Lokoja had also caused her other fresh foods, such as meat among others to go rot, sequel to the same energy challenge.

She described the consequences of the prolonged power outage.on the private and economic activities of the people in Lokoja and its environs as “terrible”, adding that nobody would want to encounter such an experience.

The seller called on the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company, AEDC, to find timely and lasting solution to the problem.

Our correspondent reports that the predicament of the kunu seller epitomizes the biter experience of her colleagues in other business outfits are going through in the face of the power outage not only in Lokoja but other parts of the state.

Investigation by the online publication shows that the power outage in Lokoja can last for many hours, a whole day or more.

The residents said the untold hardship came amid extreme heat in Lokoja ,requiring them to fall back on fans or conditioners to check the effect and make life conducive for living.

Feelers from the office of AEDC in Lokoja attributed the problem to shortage of gas among others, pointing out the it is peculiar to Lokoja.

The Reporters recalls that the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission,NERC, announced an increased in the electricity tariff by over 300 per cent for Band A electricity consumers in the country about two weeks ago.
