Late General Mohammed Chris Alli.
The Chief of Army Staff, COAS, LT, -Gen Taoreed Lagbaja, has condoled with the family members of the late Maj.-Gen.Mohammed Christ Alli who died in a military hospital in Lagos on Sunday, aged 79.
In a statement on Sunday, signed by army spokesman, Brig.-Gen.Onyema Nwachukwu,Gen.Lagbaja said that the deceased served the army with honour and dedication in various capacities, leaving enduring prints on the sands of time.
He noted Alli’s commitment and zeal to duty, adding that this virtue manifested evidently as he rose through the ranks to become the Director, Military Intelligence (DMI), amongst several other key appointments in the Nigerian army.
Gen.Alli,who was appointed the 9th COAS during during the regime of the late Sani Abacha in November 1993 and was in that office until his retirement from service in August 1994, died during a brief illness in the early hours of Sunday.
He was was born on December 25, 1944, in Koton Karfe, Kogi State, north central Nigeria.
He joined the Nigerian Army on October 20, 1967, as a member, Emergency Short Service Combatant Course and rose through the ranks to become the Director, Military Intelligence (DMI).
The General was also appointed interim administrator ,Plateau State during the 2004 crisis in the state, following ethno-religious killings in Shendam, Yelwa Local Government of the state.
General Alli was a member of The Guardian Editorial Board before his demise.
The General,a worthy son of Egbira nation, was also the Chairman, Board of Trustee of Egbira Ohiku Descendants Union, EODU until his death.
