The various security agencies deplored to law and order during and after the governorship on November 11,2023 in kogi state said they are set to ensure law and order as well as free and fair election.
The head of the task, who is also the Deputy Inspector General of Police,DIG, intelligence department,Force headquarters,Abuja, Ahmed Habu Sani, disclosed this to journalists during a press conference in Lokoja on Thursday.
The DIC said the Inspector General of Police,Kayode Egbetokun,was not sleeping over his mandate to ensure that the conduct of the election is devoid of any crisis, adding that the security agencies would not rest on their oars to ensure that such mandate is carried out effectively.
Sani,who confirmed that 40,000 security agencies had been deployed for the poll,therefore, called on would-be trouble makers to think twice, warning that any attempt to test the power of the security agencies would be met with heavy resistance.
He said the police and members of other sister agencies would be at the 21 local government areas, 239 polling booths,and 6,508 polling units to take care of security of lives and property.
According to him,some security personnel, from other states of the federation have arrived Lokoja,the state capital,adding that some were on their way to their areas of deployment as at the time of press conference.
The DIG said,,” Having considered the various threats,the deployment were carried out professionally to cover these areas to avert any foreseen threat.
He added that there would be restriction of movement of people during the exercise except those on essential duties ,adding that all officers and men of the security agencies would be given stickers for identification and for detection of deviants, for necessary action.
DIG Sani assured that the security agencies were “ever ready” to ensure the peaceful conduct of the election in kogi state and to contain any problem that might arise.
“I am using this opportunity to warn individuals or groups that may want to test our collective will of this onerous national assignment of very importance, to think twice,” he further admonished.
He said the warning became important because the security agencies were “fully prepared” to deal with those kinds of persons or groups, without fear or favour.
He called on the good people of the state to be supportive to the security agencies to ensure that the election is conducted under an atmosphere of free, fair and peaceful exercise.
He said the security agencies would be open to information that would assist them in discharging the task assigned to them,adding that such information should be channeled through dedicated lines to the police public relations officers or any other appropriate quarters, for prompt reaction.
