The FCT Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Olusola Odumosu, has expressed his desire to partner with credible organizations, both local and international, that have thematic areas relevant to the core mandates.
The Commandant made this known on Tuesday when a delegation from Universal Migration Enlightenment Centre (UMEC), an affiliate body of Global Migration Research Institute (GMRI), USA paid him a courtesy visit in his office in Abuja.
The NSCDC helmsman in the FCT said that, “Migration is one issue taking the front burner in the country in recent times hence the issues of irregular migration and human trafficking would receive adequate attention from the Corps to address the illegality.
Odumosu revealed that some units within the Corps, saddled with similar responsibilities like Anti Human Trafficking and Child Labor, Peace and Conflict Resolution and Anti-Corruption Unit, would be availed of capacity building programmes and other collaborative programmes UMEC is bringing to the table for the officers and men of the corps in National Development.
Earlier in his speech, the Executive Secretary of UMEC, Chief Barth Ikiebe, stated that UMEC, as an organization, had been at the forefront of promoting migration issues and educating the citizens on dangers of irregular migration through advocacy and outreach programmes and had deemed it fit to seek for partnership with NSCDC based on their outstanding track record in the defence of civilian population in Nigeria.
The Chief Executive of Centre for Domestic Peace Building and Conflict Resolution, Dr. Francis Adabenege, who is collaborating with UMEC, added that their visit was also to fashion out a home grown solution to mental health challenges confronting uniform personnel through consultative roundtable on mental healthcare using FCT Command as a model.
Responding, FCT Commandant, Olusola Odumosu, posited that the visit was very apt and in line with the focus and staff welfare, mental and emotional wellbeing projection of the Commandant General, Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, in moving NSCDC to greater heights.
Our Correspondent recalls that the Civil Defence Commandant General was ably represented by ACG Simon Amanelechi at a maiden National Workshop on Proffering Solutions to illegal migration in Nigeria held recently in Abuja.
