Members of Youth Vanguard, from the northeast region of Nigeria have landed in Kogi state to add value to the campaign of ensuring the electoral victory of the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, come November 11,2023.
An elder of the group, Prof. Mustapha Momoh, disclosed this in an interview with the correspondent of The Reporters in Lokoja on Sunday.
Prof. Momoh, who spoke on the sideline of interaction he had with members of a socio-cultural organization, Ebira Avaibe Association at the Gadumo area of Lokoja, said the youth vanguard embarked on such exercise because they believed in the candidature of Ododo and Joel Oyibo.
The don,who teaches information management/MIS at the University of Maiduguri, Borno state, described the combination of Ododo and Oyibo as a good choice that would further solidify the concept of non tribal governance in the state .
He said that though as indigenes of Kogi state, members of the group might not be able to vote during the election as they are outside the state, they came to the state to “motivate, mobilize and encourage voters at the grassroots to ensure the victory of Ododo.”
He expressed the belief of the group in the ability and competence of Ododo to consolidate on the solid foundation laid by Governor Yahaya Bello, if given the mandate to be the next governor of the state in less than a month from now.
Prof.Momoh commended Governor Bello for blazing a trail in terms of security, education, and healthcare delivery and championing the cause of unity of purpose of kogites, irrespective of their divisive expressions among other efforts.
According to Prof. Momoh, Ododo, being a leader who has learned the act of governance from “an achiever in the person of Governor Bello”, is in the best position to take over the mantle of leadership from him.
He described Ododo’s choice to contest the governorship position of the state as devoid of “ethnic jingoism”, adding that his administration would ensure that the three senatorial districts further benefit from the dividends of democracy in line with the philosophy of balanced administration by Governor Bello.
Earlier while interacting with members of the Ebira Avaibe Association, the “August visitor” urged them to support efforts aimed at ensuring that Ododo emerges as the next governor of the state, come January 27, 2024, assuring them that they would not regret their action with Ododo at the leadership of the state.
Responding, the convener of the meeting, Hon.Musa Aka’aba, commended members of the youth vanguard for their mission in the state and expressed the determination of the association to join hands with them for the realization of their aims and objectives.
He said that members of the association were solidly in support of all efforts geared towards the electoral victory of Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo and Joel Oyibo because they believed in their ability to move the state to the next level of realistic social, economic and political development.
Akaaba added that apart from resolving to vote for Ododo in the forthcoming election, members were also wooing other voters, across the three senatorial districts to join with them in such a crucial civic responsibility for the progress of the state.
Our correspondent reports that the meeting, called to discuss social and economic challenges facing Ebiraland and its indigenes, was attended by members of the association drawn from Imeme bridge to 500 housing unit, along Gadumo-Ganaja road.
