FG commences reconstruction of bad portion of Ganaja road.

The Federal government has commenced Reconstruction works on the bad portion of the Ganaja road, Lokoja, Kogi State capital, north central Nigeria, has commenced to salvage the road from yearly flooding.
This is contained in a statement signed and sent to The Reporters by the Public Relations Officer, PRO,Kogi State Ministry of Works and Housing, Mr.Abah Benjamin Eneojoh on Wednesday in Lokoja.
Eneojoh said this was the outcome of a joint assessment of the road in lokoja between Kogi State Ministry of Works and Housing Commissioner, Hon. Samson Bako, officials of the Federal Road Maintenance Agency, Gitto Construction Company.
According to him,Engr. Onafuye Olayinka, Federal Controller of Works in the state, revealed the new design for the entire road and the readiness of the federal government to make the road motorable.
The PRO quoted Engr.Olayinka as saying that:”The contract is Special Repair of the 700M, flooded/bad portion of Ganaja road.
“The job is awarded to Messrs Gitto Nig. Ltd.
“The scope of work includes:
removal of unsuitable material to 500mm depth.
“Provision of hard core and granular materials,provision of concrete (rigid) pavement, and
embarkment protection work
as well as provision of Solar-Powered Street Light.
“The Contractor has been mobilized to site and has commenced work execution.
“However, the Design for the 7km dual carriageway, from the Ganaja Junction Flyover to Ganaja roundabout in Ganaja village, with spur through Nyamanyama/500 Unit Housing Road is almost completed and awaiting approval for award by Federal Ministry of Works & Housing”.
Responding,Hon. Bako,thanked President Ahmed Bola Timubu-led administration for the swift response to the call of Governor Yahaya Bello on the Federal Government to do the needful over the flooded part of the Ganaja road.
Bello made the call Recall recently when the Minister of Works, Chief Dave Umahi visited the road and Umahi promised to redesign the Lokoja- Ganaja-Ajaokuta Express road,in view of its strategic importance as the gateway between the Northern and the Eastern parts of the country.
The Reporters recalls that the initial reconstruction of the 7-kilometre road started November 2021 and it was expected to finish with two months, but the contractor that handled the portion being repaired now abandoned the job.
Some motorists that plied the road on Wednesday, while reacting to the development in a separate interview with our correspondent, commended the federal government for quick response for and the push by the kogi state government resulting in the reconstruction of the portion of the road.
They, however, called on the contracting company handling the work to make sure that history does not repeat itself on the project and afford users of the road ease of traffic.
