The federal government says it has approved the award of a contract for the reconstruction of the Lokoja-Lokoja road.

President Ahmed Bola Tinubu disclosed this on Sunday at Muhammadu Buhari Square, Lokoja while flagging off the APC governorship campaign and the handing over of the party’s flag to its candidate in the November 11, 2023, guber election in the state, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo.
Tinubu, who was represented at the occasion by the Vice President, Sen. Kashim Shettima, also disclosed that completion of Abuja-Lokoja-Okene as well as Kabba-Ilorin road were being given the needed attention by his government to ensure easy journeys for commuters in those areas of the country.
Tinubu stressed the need for the electorate in Kogi state to vote for the APC candidate in the planned poll for the state to be on the same page with the federal government in the implementation of the 8-point agenda of the federal government and its benefits to the state.
Our correspondent recalls that the federal government started the rehabilitation of the seven-kilometer aspect of the Lokoja-Ganaja road, in November 2021.
The online news media further reports that the aim was to make traffic from Lokoja to the eastern and southern parts of Nigeria, which is usually at its peak at the end year, easy for commuters.
An investigation by our correspondent revealed that while the contractors that handled the work from Ganaja junction to Gadumo axis completed their job and got paid, their counterparts that handled the job from Aniebo Housing Estate down to Ganaja village did not deliver quality jobs.
The development, therefore, leaves motorists, commuters, and other users in a perpetual agony of plying the aspect of the road with telling effects on their health and the mechanical condition of their vehicles.
Many tenants at Ganaja village have also relocated to Lokoja, citing the terrible nature of the axis of the road, according to sources who spoke with The Reporters on the road.
Some members of the public, who spoke on the plan to put the road concerned in a motorable shape, commended the Tinubu administration for the thought but stressed the need for the execution of the contract for the purpose intended.
Meanwhile, as residents of Lokoja-Ganaja road await the commencement of massive reconstruction of the road, the Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, has promised the people of the state of “mother of palliatives”, beginning next week.

He disclosed this in his address of welcome in Lokoja at the flagging off of the APC campaign for the November governorship election in the state.
Bello, who recalls that the state government had commenced the distribution of the palliatives, expressed optimism the “mother of palliatives” would further cushion the effects of the removal of fuel subsidies for the people.
The Reporters recall that President Ahmed Bola Tinubu announced the removal of fuel subsidy on May 29, 2023, in Abuja during his swearing-in as the president of Nigeria.
