DSP Musa Muhammed Adamu, a Mobile Police Officer who was shot while on active service by bandits at Galadimawa Forest, Kaduna State, in October 2021, says he is still battling a life-threatening illness waiting for his employer, the Nigeria Police Force for assistance.
Our correspondent gathered that Adamu has undergone about eight self-sponsored surgeries at different hospitals without success.
In 2022, Musa in a video, alleged that the NPF had abandoned him after he sustained gunshot injuries while on a special joint military/security operation under the auspices of Operation Puff Adder in Kaduna State.
Reacting to the claims, the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said in a press statement that the Force is committed to the welfare of its personnel and denied that the officer was abandoned.
The wrote; “The attention of the Nigeria Police Force has been drawn to a video on the Twitter platform, where a personnel of the Force, one DSP Musa Muhammed Adamu attached to Police Mobile Force 45 Squadron, Dei-Dei, Abuja, claimed to have been abandoned by the Police after sustaining gunshot injuries while on a special joint military/security operation under the auspices of Operation Puff Adder in Kaduna State.
“The Force wishes to state that updates of every single part of the process,from the incident till date, is being received regularly, while substantial commitments have been made, both by the Kaduna State Government, the Nigeria Police Force, Senior Officers under whose Command he has served, and his colleagues who have made valuable contributions on his road to recovery financially and in other forms.
“It is pertinent to state that, there is a standard procedure for channeling complaints within the Force and that the Police Social Media Policy is still in effect and enforceable against all contraventions by Police Officers. However, considering the present situation, the Force would rather focus on the major issue, which is the health of the officer and ensuring his quick recovery, as well as payments of all insurance and medical benefits due to him.
“The Force Insurance Officer has been mandated by the Inspector-General of Police to ensure prompt processing of his Group Personal Accident Insurance Scheme payments and other necessary allowances while we wish him a quick recovery and return to active service.”
Zagazola understands that despite the directive given by the former IGP, Musa is yet to get any help.
He said the “IGP ordered for my treatment and change of hospital back to Abuja. Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Admin AIG Mopol Force Headquarters, ACP Lateef, asked me to apply, which I did through my squadron Commander to AIG Mopol to Inspector General Police with a total of fifteen million naira (15,000,000).
“This amount will include N7m for my scheduled surgeries and outstanding medical bills as well as after care.
“But since 8 August, 2022, I have not heard anything from the police till date. I still went ahead to Cedar Crest Hospital at Apo Dutse Area one, where I was receiving treatment, after all tests and MRI x-ray from the three doctors i.e neurology, general surgery, and orthopedic doctors, all found out that bullets has linked my anus with my urethra that’s why I am passing urine through penis and my anus.I also went on a total hip replacement.
“Details of the results and bills are shown below, I forwarded same to ACP Lateef but nothing was heard from the police or the officer in Charge of insurance that was mandated by the IGP. At last, I was told that the amount was too much.
“It was my Squadron Commander who helped me raise N2.5 million from other Squadron Commanders which assisted me in paying some part payments for the surgical bill. At the end of the day, Cedar Crest Hospital had to send me away for not being able to pay for the medical bills.
“I am in the village suffering with pains. Please, the police should rescue my life, my family, my younger ones, we are orphans, no father nor mother, My siblings have dropped out from schools since last year due to my condition. I have also lost erection due to destruction of bullets. I am dying in the village waiting for police authority, thank you”.
