ABU Alumni Association conducts peaceful election,president emerges unopposed .

Alhaji Adamu Mamman Kontagora, on Saturday, on Saturday, emerged as President World Wide, ABU Alumni Association at the 16th edition of the Annual General Assembly/Home Coming of members of Association in Zaria, Kaduna state, unopposed.
Our correspondent reports that Kontagor’s co-contestant, Dr.Ibrahim Sani Khalil, who is the immediate past President, World Wide of the association, stepped down for him shortly before the commencement of the election.
At this juncture, the Chairman of the election, retired Justice Idi Appollo, pronounced Kontagora as elected unopposed.

The election of the Secretary General of the association, Dr.Danjuma Mahnud, was also unopposed as nobody contested the post with him.
The same process went to other positions, down the ladder of the contestable leadership positions of the association except the national publicity secretary post.
At the end of the keen contest, Madinah Azaki, an Abuja-based journalist won with 118 votes while Musa Aliyu scored 94 votes and Gusau got 80 votes.
In all, the exercise was free, fair, and transparent,devoid of rancor or violence and monetary of material inducement.
Dr.Khalil was seen shaking hands with Kontagora immediately Kontagora was pronounced as the president of the association.
Other members joined as they shook hands with and hugged victors in a joyous atmosphere that welcomed the new exco into the leadership position of the association.
In his acceptance speech, Kontagora described the election as the best in the history of election in the association and commended Dr.Khalil for exhibiting an absolute sense of good sportsmanship.
He also praised the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof.Kabiru Bala, and other stakeholders for their input that resulted in the success of the exercise.
Kontagora and his team,whose tenure will last for two years, promised that his administration would ensure that the association witnessed more positive developments to justify the confidence members reposed in him and his management.

Side attraction at the occasion include members, who have not seen each other for years since their graduation were seen in warm embracement, exchanging telephone numbers,reflecting on fun memories of their days in the university among others.
Some alumni members who spoke with the correspondent of The Reporters,called on politicians to emulate the association by ensuring peaceful election.
Our ccorrespondent gathered that Ahmadu Bello University,Zaria was established in 1963 with a population of about million students and thousands of graduates to its credit.
