The Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) Zone D has bemoaned what it described as unending insecurity in north central states of the country.
The union also berated the abduction of Benue Commissioner for Information while positing that the continuing insecurity in the north central geo-political zone has become worrisome and desiring drastic steps by the government and security operatives to halt the trend.
The Vice President of NUJ Zone D, Comrade Chris Atsaka, in a statement, on Monday, berated the unending threat to lives with the latest abduction of the Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism in Benue State, Matthew Abo by gunmen on Sunday, in his home town of Ukum Local Government Area.
He recalled with regret the spate of abductions, kidnappings, banditry and other forms of criminal activities urging the government and security to redouble effort at halting the trend.
Atsaka decried activities of bandits in Niger State as well as the continued herdsmen-farmers crisis on the Plateau, Benue and Nasarawa, which in his estimation is stunting economic growth in the zone.
The NUJ vice president however sympathised with the people and government of the affected zone, as he called for decisive action to restoring nomalcy in the area.
