An auto crash involving two vehicles that collided at Elete village, Ajaokuta Local Government Area of Kogi State on Saturday morning left seven passengers unhurt, one dead while three others injury.
The Kogi Sector Commander Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Corps Commander Samuel Oyedeji, who confirmed the incident to the our Correspondent in a telephone interview, described it as ” a very unfortunate incident.”
Oyedeji said that the accident which involved a Peugeot J-5 Bus and a Sharon Bus left the driver of the J-5 Bus dead.
He gave the cause of the head on collusion as speed, reckless overtaken and carelessness.
“The Sharon bus had eight persons while the J-5 bus had three persons but God in his infinite mercy kept seven persons unhurt.
“Our rescue team/personnel, who rushed to the accident scene, took the injured persons to the Kogi Specialist Hospital, Lokoja for medical attention, ” said.
The Sector Commander said that the corpse of the the bus driver was claimed by the members of the community for burial.
Oyedeji appealed to motorists to exercise caution while on the highway not to involve such accident that brings about untimely death and destruction of property.
According to him, motorists must exercise patient and caution each time they want to embark on over taken to avoid head on collusion that would bring about unnecessary destruction of lives and property.
“We expect every motorist to keep to the traffic rules and regulations to stay alive and safe guard the lives of innocent passengers on the highways,” he said.
However, another source told our correspondent that the accident claimed more than one person,adding that it took the efforts of sympathisers who used objects to hack the body of one the vehicles to remove some bodies.
