Egbiras revive demand for creation of Egbira state

The Peoples of Egbira ethnic nationality in Nigeria have resolved to revive the demand for the creation of Egbira State, as a means to fast-track the development of Egbira Nation.

This is contained in a communique issued at the end of THE TWO- DAY, THIRD WORLD OHIKU DAY CONVENTION AT ETUNO-IGARRA, EDO STATE ON 9TH AND 10TH DECEMBER, 2022.

Our Correspondent reports that the colourful event has as theme: “UNITY, PROGRESS AND SECURITY OF THE EGBIRA NATION AND PROPAGATION OF THE GAZETTED COMMON NAME OF EGBIRA. the 2022”.

The ethnic nationality also resolved and affirmed:

“That every Egbira son and daughter, at home and in Diaspora, is a bonafide member of the Ohiku Egbira Descendants Union.

“That the unity of Egbira people is sacrosanct to the socio-political and economic wellbeing of the Egbira Nation.

“To tap into the vast potential of the rich massive resources across the length and breathe of the Egbira Nation.

“To continuously intensify the promotion and the propagation of our gazetted name Egbira, spelt as E-G-B-I-R-A.

“To pursue the establishment of a formidable Women and Youth Wings of the Egbira Nation, as a vehicle for the articulation of our strengths, culture and common values.

“To inculcate the rich cultural values of the Egbira people as a means for cohesion and to fight Youth restiveness, drug addiction, crimes and general insecurity.

“To use all lawful means possible to protect Egbira Nation from banditry, kidnapping and all forms of terrorism and armed attacks whenever wherever.

“That the Egbiras should fully participate and take advantage of the upcoming National Population Census and adopt EGBIRA in all entries and other official correspondences.

“To strengthen its existing Internal Conflict Resolution mechanism to address flashpoints in the Egbira Nation and therefore enjoined respective contending parties to make needed sacrifices and compromises in the interest of Peace and Unity.

“The Convention appreciates the Etuno Zonal Chapter of OEDU and indeed, all sons and daughters of Egbira Nation, for their contributions and prayer.

The Reporters gathered that the meeting of peoples of Egbira Nation was attended by Royal fathers and stakeholders from Opete, Miyakan and Etuno during which they deliberated on their position among the comity of Ethnic Nationalities in Nigeria.

The event was under the chairmanship of Honourable Justice Suleiman Galadima, OFR, CFR, a retired JSC and coordinated by the Ohiku Egbira Descendants Union, the umbrella body of the Egbira nation.

Our Correspondent reports that the Egbiras are found in at least, three States of the federation: Kogi,Edo and Nasarawa, and are the dominant tribe in kogi Central Senatorial district.They are also found in part of West Senatorial district of the state and derive their history from the famous kwararafa empire of 17th century.
