Bello expresses worry over youths involvement in crime

The Governor of Niger State, Central Central Nigeria, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello, has expressed concern over involvement of youths in crime, especially in northern part of the country and attributed the negative development to poor parenting.

He made the observation on Saturday shortly after taking salute in Minna during 62nd independence anniversary of Nigeria.

He said:”If parents had played their motherly and fatherly roles in the lives of their children, what is happening today, whereby a number of children grew up in the streets away from their parents and without proper care and guidance would not be happening.
 
Governor Bello said the action of youths involved in Boko-Haram and Armed banditry activities had attracted bad publicity to the region in particular.
 
Bello reminded parents that “It is not enough to give birth to children, nurturing them until they are of age properly is one task they must not relegate to the background.

He called for closer tie between parents and their wards to change the narrative, adding that the people of the state should also promote peaceful co-existence amongst the diverse tribes and religionsshun acts capable of derailing democracy and in the build up to 2023 general elections in the country and the state in particular.
 
Our Correspondent reports that the occasion featured match past by students from selected primary and secondary schools within the state capital, moderated by the Police Command in the state.
 
Apart from students, the Nigeria Police Force special squad, members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence (NSCDC) as well as some voluntary organisations also took part in the match past.
