No fewer than 10,000 police officers have been deployed to take charge of security for the state funeral of Queen Elizabeth ll on Monday.
The Guardian qouted Metropolitan police Deputy Assistant Commissioner Stuart Cindy as saying that commanders had plans in place to thwart or deal with any attempted attack or disruption.
According to him,about 300 foreign dignitaries are expected, triggering the biggest personal protection operation undertaken by the Met.
Cundy said : The scale and complexity of policing the funeral was immense, with officers being drafted in from forces around the country so the Met can manage the funeral and other demands across the capital.
“This will be on Monday the biggest single deployment of police officers in an operation that the Met police has ever undertaken.”
Sources from London indicate that thousands of mourners all over the world trooped to Westminster Hall to pay their last respect to the UK’s longest reigning Monarch in history.
Queen Elizabeth II, the longest-living and longest-reigning British monarch, and the monarch of fifteen Commonwealth realms, died at 96 years at Balmoral Castle in Scotland on September 8,2022, according to wikipedia.
Our Correspondent recalls that the Vice President of Nigeria,Prof. Yemi Osinbajo left Abuja, the nation’s capital on Saturday, to join 500 heads of state and other foreign nationals in London at the state funeral for the late Queen on Sunday and Monday.
All the religious leaders who spoke during the church for the late Queen commended her devotion to the service of humanity, commonwealth nations, the royal family faith and compassion for her subjects.
They called on those in leadership position through out the world to see the Queen’s death as an inspiration for them to guarantee Justice.and righteousness to the led to ensure peace and development.
The clerics prayed for the repose of soul of the deceased, the grieved royal family, commonwealth nations among others.
The Queen’s remains were moved out of central London to Biking ham palace, after church service by procession mounted by miliary and Police personnel and from there to Windsor for final burial as at the time of this report by 12.57 p.m.
According to Vanguardngr.com, Windsor is where King George VI memorial chapel, a small annex to the main chapel is located,where the Queen’s mother and father were buried and where the ashes of her sister, Princess Margret were kept.
All the children of the late monarch and other royal family members,led by the new King, Charles lll, attended the procession.
Earlier in his remarks, the man in charge of the operation, the Earl Marshal, who is also the Duke of Norfolk, said the Queen’s state funeral would “unite people across the globe and resonate with people of all faiths”.
He paid a “fitting tribute to an extraordinary reign”.
The Vice President’s media assistant, Laolu Akande, in a statement in Abuja said the occasion would members of the Royal Family, members of the Commonwealth, Heads of State, Governors-General, Prime Ministers, among others at Westminster Abbey on Monday.
The late Queen, who worked with 15 prime ministers and said to have covered about one million miles visiting common wealth nations, globally during her 70-year-old reign, is survived by four children:King Charles, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew and Prince Edward.
Our Correspondent reports that six countries: Russia, Belarus, Syria, Venezuela and Afghanistan are, however, not invited for the funeral ceremony.
