As the 2023 general elections draw nearer, an elder statesman in Niger state, Alhaji Aminu Muhammed Sanni, has challenged Nigerians, youths in particular, to resist the temptation of selling their votes and shun fear that their votes will not count.
The elder statesman gave the advice in Minna during the weekend at inauguration of Niger State Chapter of the Nigerian Youth Movement for Peter Obi & Datti Ahmed (NYMPODA).
He said the worst mistake any youth can make is not participating in the electíon, adding that it would amount to greatest injustice to self and the generality of Nigerians is that youths tactically accept to mortgage Nigeria’s future by selling their votes or refusing to vote at all on election days.
Sanni, a farmer cum politician, said it is no longer news that Nigeria is faced with socio-economic; challenges,a development he said should be a thing of concern to every patriotic Nigeria eager for a better future for all.
The elder statesman urged youths to reject politicians who had nothing to offer in 2023.
“We have heard some politicians being described as very stingy. What has those who are not stingy done for us over the years.
After collecting ¼ bag of rice, macaroni or common tomato paste, from,you will never see them again until four years after. Let us be wise this time around!
“For the fact that people now go to farms that are not theirs to harvest crops is a clear indication that we are indeed in perilous time,”he noted.
A Sanni called on youths to do all that is legally possible to ensure an end to bad people hijacking the leadership positions in Nigeria as from next year.
Speaking earlier, the National Convener NYMPODA, Dr. Emmanuel Ndubuisi, said the group was out to ensure good governance based on; equity, fairness and justice devoid of religious, tribal and regional sentiments for all Nigerians.
Ndubuisi urged the Philip Isah Gwada-led 17-man executive to mobilise Nigerlites towards ensuring that only credible candidates emerge at the local government, state and federal levels in 2023 general elections.
