Man in court for allegedly killing,eating uncle’s wife’s head

Jeremiah Ode, 45, from Igwe Ochekpo,Oju Local Government Area of Benue State, has appeared before Chief Magistrate Regina Alagh of Makurdi Magistrate’s Court for allegedly killing his uncle’s wife,Priscilla Adoga, 65, and eating her head.

Inspector Omaye Ujata, the Prosecuting Police Officer, told the court that the incident occurred at Igwe Ochekpo on August 19, 2022, adding that the case was reported to the police by Silas Igiri of Oju Local Government Area of the state.

Inspector Ujata qouted Igiri saying that the accused was caught eating the head of Adoga on her farm.

According to Igiri, the accused committed the offence when he went to the farm, where his uncle’s wife, Priscilla was working and killed her, using machete.

According to the prosecution,after severing Priscilla’s body, Ode, prepared pepper soup with it and was eating it when he was caught.

Sources in the community were said to have told Journalists that, when Priscilla did not return home from the farm at the normal time, her relatives went in search of her.

In the process , they found Ode, who is known in the community to be mentally deranged, having a meal of the woman’s head.

When asked why he committed the henious crime, the accused said he only started with the head , adding that after which that, he would proceed to Ujata’s body.

When given the opportunity by the Police to give his account of the incident, Ode said he and Ujata fought each other with their machete until he overpowered her.

Although the Prosecutor told the court that the accused confessed committing the crime and the accused confirmed that in his narration, no plea was taken “for want of jurisdiction.”

Chief Magistrate Alagh declined court’s jurisdiction to hear the case and ordered the accused to be remanded at the Federal Correctional Centre, Makurdi for legal advice from Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) and adjourned the case to November 11.
