Man soon in court for allegedly breaching marriage promise, swindling

An accused,Adeniyi Oluremi,48, is to appear before Justice Mohammed Etsu Umar of the Kogi State High Court,7, Lokoja on July 4 on allegation that Oluremi swindled a lady and breached the promise of marriage he made to her.

Our Correspondent reports that the accused, whose case Judge for hearing on the said date,is charged with obtaining property under false pretence, punishable under Section 1 (3) of advanced fee fraud.

The accused, according to the prosecution, will also face a charge of criminal breach of trust, punishable under Section 312 of Kogi State penal code.

Oluremi also has question to answer regarding a charge of deceitful inducing belief of lawful marriage,punishable under Section 383 of kogi state penal.

When in court, the accused will also face a charge bordering on criminal intimidation, contrary to Section 397 of kogi state penal code,all preferred against him by the Commissioner of Police.

According to prosection, Oluremi, between 2017 and 2020 at Lokoja in Lokoja Local Governnent Area of Kogi State, under the false pretence, promised to marry one Omowumi Aina.

In the process, the accused was said to have unlawfully collected M12,196,000.00 million from Aina, telling her that he would use the money to execute a contract and promised to refund same to her within six months but failed to do so.

The prosection further told the court that Oluremi also collected N700,000.00 to build a house, where he and Aina would live as husband and wife but failed to do so and instead converted the monies to his personal use.

The accused was also alleged to have threatened Aina, using threaten words, that he would deal with her if she ever reported him to law enforcement agency, that he swindled her and breached the promise of marriage he made to her.
