Hajiya Khadijat Abdullahi-Iya has emerged winner of the governorship primaries of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Niger state, north central Nigeria, ahead of the 2023 general elections.
Our Correspondent reports that by the feat, Abdullahi-Iya becomes the first female candidate of any political party in the since the creation of the state on February 3,1976.
Abdullahi-Iya’s victory at primaries made her braze the odds to change the narratives of the male dominated political terrain in the state.
Announcing the results after the keenly contest primaries,the Electoral Committee Chairman, Mr. Sule Wushishi said, Abdullahi-Iya polled 121 votes to defeat his opponent, Alhaji Usman Mohammed, who got 20 votes.
The exercise, according to him, witnessed the accreditation of 144 votes out of which three were invalidated.
Also speaking, Niger State Chairman of APGA, Alhaji Musa Liman,said that National and State Assembly elective positions in the state would be on consensus basis.
He disclosed that Adamu Mohammed would contest the Niger-East (zone B), Niger-South (zone A), Alhaji Abubarkar Mohammed while, Mr. Sule Wushishi is to contest with aspirants from other political parties for the Niger-North (zone C) Senatorial District.
“The list of contestants for the House of Representatives, House of Assembly positions would be made public in no distant future”, Musa Liman said.
