NUC accredits 11 courses forAl-Hikmah University, Ilorin.

The National University Commission (NUC) has accredited 11 academic programmes of the Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin.

The Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Noah Yusuf, made this known at a news briefing in Ilorin on Monday.

According to him, the NUC has earlier accredited 23 of its programmes in 2021, with only one course recording interim accreditation, while additional 11 academic programmes were given full accreditation on April 19, 2022.

” The result of the accreditation which was release to the university on Tuesday, April 19, 2022, showed that the University recorded 100 percent in its academic programme accreditation exercise.

“Accreditation is supposed to be for every five years, while interim accreditation status valid for only two years after which the programme will be revisited by the NUC.

“The current outstanding performance by the university in NUC accreditation has further served to re-position Al-Hikmah University as one of the foremost and mostly subscribed private universities in Nigeria.

“It is the first Islamic faith-based University in Nigeria, when it was established in 2005,” he said.

He listed some of the academic programmes accredited to include: Software Engineering, Business Education, Education Arabic language, Education Islamic Studies, Education Chemistry, Education Economics, Education Political Science, Social Sciences, Education Management, Guidance and Counselling and Sociology.

Yusuf recalled that the University had in 2021 recorded full accreditation for 22 of its academic programmes.

The Vice Chancellor said that the institution operates subsidised school fees for some undergraduate programmes, such as Arabic and Islamic studies, Education courses and some courses in the Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences.

He listed some of the courses to include: Petroleum Chemistry, Industrial Chemistry, Statistics, Physics with Electronics, B Sc Biology, Industrial Mathematics, while Agriculture programme operates free tuition from 100 to 300 levels.

Prof Yusuf noted that Al-Hikmah University combined quality education with moral and spiritual trainings, so that products from the university could rise above the prevalence decadence among today’s youths.

The Vice Chancellor said that the institution had a reputation for quality education in a serene environment.

Yusuf disclosed that the University has established an International Secondary School and JAMB CBT Centre to commence UMTE in May, 2022, with capacity for 275 candidates.

He said a committee has been inaugurated by the institution toward the commencement of Medical School and movement to the permanent site at Atere Campus.

The Vice Chancellor appealed to the Federal, State and Local governments to assist the University, particularly in the provision of infrastructure like roads to its permanent site at Atere, Ilorin.

He said the University participated in the last Nigerian Universities Games (NUGA) for the first time and won medals.
