Magongo Developmnt Association (MDA) says it has commenced rehabilitation of the Police post in Magongo community as part of its efforts to stem insecurity in the area.
The President of MDA, Prince Alaba Jordan Akpata,made the disclosure to the Correspondent of The Reporters in Lokoja on Monday in an interview.
He added that the effort was also to compliment Ogori/Magongo Local Governnent Area and the Kogi Stare Governnent in checking insecurity in the area.
According to him, the project, which is estimated to cost N2 million has so far gulped N800,000, adding that the police post built more than 20 years ago has been abandoned due to its deplorable nature.
Prince Akpata,who commended donors for their gesture for the commencement of the project, called on other members of the society to donate generous for the completion of the project.
“After the completion of the rehabilitation of the Police Post,we will embark on the building of the third phase of Magongo Civic Centre, to boost social and economic activities of the people of our area,”he said.
He added that upon completion, the civic centre would serve as a rallying point for people to organise get together such as marriage ceremony, house warming among others.
” More importantly, the third phase, when it becomes a reality, will reduce expenses usually incurred by the management of the association in hosting Owiya festival,”he added.
Akpata further told our correspondent that the plan to increase recreational facility in Magongo would boost the unity and developmnt of the people, adding the people would use it to discuss issues that would boost their social, economic and polical aspiration and development.
The president l,who said the motto of the association centred on “True Developments, Through Self help project, called on the people of the area to imbibe the ideal of the motto for the development on Magongo.
He noted that previous projects in the area, such as postal agency, Magongo Community Secondary School,water projects among others, were done by the people through the principle of self help concept.
According to him, the era of people depending on government is almost gone, adding that the onus rests of the people to carry the cross of developing their community.
