Offa people throng Kwara Govt House over delay in trial of suspects in robbery case

Kwara State Governnent House, Ilorin on Friday, witnessed multitude of assembled persons from Offa in Offa Local Governnent Area of the state who stormed Government House, Ilorin to protest what they described as the seeming delay in the trial of suspects in the April 5, 2018 armed robbery incident in Offa.

The Reporters recalls that no fewer than 33 persons, including policemen,lost their lives during which daredevil armed robbers invaded some commercial banks in Offa four years ago and also stole cash running to millions of naira.

The aggrieved people urged the Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq to expedite action on the trial of the suspects with a view to serving the victims and their relations with justice, supporting their action with placards carrying various inscriptions.

Some of messages on the placards include “Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, don’t fold your hands, “Expedite action on the trial of Offa robbery suspects”, “We need justice on Offa robbery incident”, “The blood of Offa 33 victims is crying”, among others.

Addressing the protesters Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, who addressed the protesters through the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barr. Salman Jawondo ,SAN, said that the case was pending before a court of competent jurisdiction.

The Governor, who identified with the pains of the Offa people, especially the relations of the victims, promised that no stone would be left unturned ” until justice is served on the matter.”

The online publication further gathered that the five suspects in the 2018 Offa bank robbery: Ayoade Akinnibosun, Ibikunle Ogunleye, Adeola Abraham, Azeez Salawu and Niyi Ogundiran are all standing trial before Justice Haleema Salman of the Kwara state High Court, Ilorin.
