Some residents of Lokoja, capital of Kogi State woke up relieved on Friday, seeing their pumps running potable water, after three weeks of scarcity of the precious commodity in their domestic, commercial activities as well as public health.
Sources at the disposal of our correspondent indicate that areas mostly affectted as at the time of this report Friday morning are:Ganaja village, Gadumo quarters, Ganaja junction, Adankolo, Post Office, upto Murtala Mohammed road, Marine quarters, fehintolu and other environs within the hear of the state capital.
The Reporters recalls that while leading some Journalists to inspect the major repairs of the major water pipeline that supplies water to the public in Lokoja, the Commissioner for Water Resources, Dr Abdulmumin Danga, promised that potable water would return to homes latest by the end of this week.
Danga, who expressed concern over the effect of the scarcity on the public, said the action was not intentional, adding that dry season provided the best time for the state government to carry out the repair to boost water supply to the public.
However, some residents who expressed relief noted the low velocity in the pumping of the water,a development they said left some houses not having the commodity as expected,as at the time of this report on Friday.
They called on the state government to expite action towards the full restoration of water to more areas, especially Felele surbub,Shetima, Otokiti housing estate, workers village and phase one/Lokongoma areas among others.
