Kogi varsity to confer Doctorate degree on Bello,2 others on Saturday–VC

Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello and two other imminent Nigerians will on Saturday be conferred with honorary doctorate degree by Prince Abubakar Audu University, Anyigba, Kogi at it’s 6th Convocation ceremony.

The University’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Marietu Ohurene-Tenuche, disclosed this on Thursday during the convocation press briefing at University Auditorium, Anyigba.

According to her, the other two awardees are: the Visitor to the University, an industrialist and philanthropist, Alhaji (Dr) Dahiru Barau-Mangal, and the Senator representing Kogi East in the National Assembly, Alhaji Jibrin Isah.

The VC also disclosed that more than 19,000 graduands from six different sets would be awarded various degrees and diplomas by institution, having found them worthy in character and in learning during their leaning process in the university.

“It’s unfortunate and regrettable too that since 2015, we have not been able to hold Convocation for our graduands but this time around, we are going to convocate six different sets.

“The cheering news is that the Governing Council at her 59th Regular meeting held on Friday, 17th December, 2021, confirmed the promotion of 17 new Professors and 15 new Readers cutting across Departments and Faculties in the University.

“The promotion of six of the new Professors is historic to the University, as this was the first time in the history of the institution that such a large number of senior academics were promoted to the professorial ranks.

“I want to use this opportunity to once again, congratulate the new Professors and Readers on the well-deserved heights,” she stated.

Ohurene-Tenuche said the institution’s focus was to ensure sustained linkages with international scholars and institutions so as to enhance the visibility of the University.

She expressed delight that some Faculties and Departments in the University had risen to the challenge of exchanging knowledge.

According to her,the Department of Computer Science did so in conjunction with the Society for the Advancement of ICT and Comparative Knowledge, adding that Faculty of Management Sciences recently held conferences which drew scholars from within and from the shores of Nigeria.

These foreign the vice Chancellor further disclosed include the United States, South Africa, United Kingdom, Pakistan, where they engaged in physical and virtual interactions to advance the frontiers of knowledge.

The VC said the event would involve Convocation Lecture to be delivered on Jan 27 by an erudite scholar, a former Vice-Chancellor and the current Secretary General, Association of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities, Professor Yakubu Aboki Ochefu with the theme, “Education and Security Challenges in Nigeria”.

She said:”On Friday, Jan. 28t there will be the Convocation Ceremony for the award of First Degrees to graduands in the Faculties of Agriculture, Arts and Humanities, Education, Law, Management Sciences, Natural Sciences and Social Sciences. Prizes and Awards will also be given to the deserving graduands in Faculties and Departments.

“The proper Convocation Ceremony for the award of Higher Degrees and Postgraduate Diplomas is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 29 to be conferred on graduands in the Faculties of Agriculture, Arts and Humanities, Law, Management Sciences, Natural Sciences and Social Sciences.”
