The Organized Labour in Kogi State has threatened to give a 14-day altimatum to the state government over non implementation of the new minimum wage or face indefinite strike.
The State Chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Onuh Edoka, who disclosed this on Friday in Lokoja during the State Executive Council meeting (SEC) of the congress,said the altimatum would be issued on January 25.
He expressed dismay that despite the co-operation and understanding of the worker force, the State government had continued to handle the welfare of workers lackadaisically
Edoka recalled that the state government setup minimum wage committee in February, 2020 with a mandate to turn-in its report within four weeks, but two years after , there was no report , adding that implementation of the new minimum wage implementation remain stalled.
He added that the state government had also not implemented annual increment for workers as well as lack of cash backing of promotions of its workers.
Edoka,who apologised to workers for the delay in taking actions on their issues attributed the developmnt to the belief of the union that it could use peace and diplomacy in resolving all their welfare issues.
The NLC boss, however, urged the affected workers to remain law abiding and await further directive from the leadership of the union.
According to him, the Congress had also put forward, the immediate stoppage of percentage salaries paid to local government workers and primary school teachers.
On the January 27 national wide strike over the planned increase in the price of fuel, Edoka said the union had also mobilised its members for the exercise, adding all its had set for the exercise.
