The new Commissioner of Police in Kogi State,CP Edward Chuka Egbuka, has called on officers and men of the Command to imbibe the mission of the Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, which centers on citizen-led and professional police, to make the state much secured and safer.
He made the call during his maiden meeting with senior officers and management of the command in Lokoja on Friday.
Egbuka, who stressed that zero tolerance for corruption, especially, extortion and human rights violation by the personnel of the command, would be his watch words, called on officers with such behaviour to think twice to avert appropriate sanction.
He said that it would be unfair for any police officer to escort members of the public, who by statutory responsibility he or she is supposed to guard against crime and criminality.
According to him, no policeman should indulge in human rights violation, under the disguise to effect arrest of suspects, adding there were clear cut methods of doing that to avoid jungle justice.
He called on senior officers such as Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers to watch the conduct of their suburdinates, adding that any misconduct, including unconventional way of dressing,as officers, they would be held responsible.
The new CP said having put in more than 30 years service, he would exploit the experience in synergy with his colleagues in other sister security agencies, to reduce crime and criminality to the barest minimum.
He called on members of the public to avail the police with credible information that would lead to arrest of criminals and improve on security of life and property in the area.
CP Egbuka,who described Journalists as critical stakeholders in security management of any society, however, urged them to shun reporting in such a way that the reportage would promote the agenda of criminals.
He thanked the Inspector General of Police for finding him worthy for the new appointment and appreciated the Governor of the state,Alhaji Yahaha Bello, for his cooperation since he assumed duty on Thursday.
Egbuka advised other segments of the population in the state to cooperate with the police, to enable him execute his set goal of making the state safe, adding that security of life and property remained a collective responsibility.
Fielding questions from Journalists at the occasion, the new police boss said while there was no more road block in the state,such could be reintroduced at strategic positions, if necessary, depending on the nature of event that might warrant it.
The Reporters reports that CP Egbuka is the 36th Commissioner of Police in the over 30-year-old kogi state with Shehu Abdulkadir as its first Commissioner of Police
Egbuka took over from CP Dauda Dabban,who has been transferred to the Nigeria Police,Force headquarters,Abuja for another national assignment.
