Former Minister of information Labaran Maku has attributed the continued insecurity, rising poverty and incessant killings in the north to insincerity of its greedy leaders.
Maku, the All Progressives Grand Alliance, (APGA) scribe, who gave the lamentation in his Christmas message in Wakma village,his ancestral home in Akwanga Local Governnent Area of Nasarawa State,noted that ” the north is currently at war with itself.”
Going memory on insecurity in the region,he recalled that the current war in the entire north started in Nasarawa in February, 2001.
“The killing trend moved to somewhere in Taraba, later to plateau and Kaduna and spread to other parts of the north, Maku noted.
The APGA secretary also said that the reason why the killing could not be stopped and poverty unabated was because leaders in the north politicized everything, including religion and tribe.
He also traced the problem to the level at which election results were being bought by some leaders, adding that the leaders concerned were made to rule over people who did not vote them into power.
Maku explained that where political office holders did not love and put first the interest of the people they are leading at heart, “the consequence is what is seen in most states in the north.”
He, however, called on citizens of the region not to lose hope but continue to pray to God to give wisdom to leaders to make decisions that would change the present predicaments of the area.
