Kogi State Government says it has put necessary measures in place to explore effective urban planning, developmental control, drainage designs, dredging and construction of drainage channels to put “total stop to the yearly flooding within Lokoja metropolis.”

The Commissioner for Works and Housing, Engr.Abubakar Ohere, disclosed this in Lokoja while on tour of some projects embarked upon by the state to boost the social and economic life of the people of the state.

This is contained in a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer for the Ministry,Mr Abah Eneojo and available to the Reporters,an online news media in Lokoja on Friday.

Eneojo qouted the Commissioner as saying that “in his relentless strive to turn Kogi state to infrastructural hub, the state government under Alhaji Yahaya Bello, had turned the state into a construction site.”

This,Ohere said, Bello did “by investing hugely in the infrastructural facilities across the state, to the admiration and commendation of entire Kogites and Nigerians at large.”

“Governor Bello is more than determined and committed to making life better for the citizens and residents of Kogi State, through the provision of infrastructure that will catalyse economic growth, social change and an enable environment for businesses to thrive,” the Commissioner said.

Ohere reaffirmed Governor’s commitment to quality delivery of long lasting road projects that would stand the test of time, noting that constant desilting would prevent filling up of drains which might overflow into roads and subsequently shorten their lifespan.

According to the Commissioner, the the inspection of construction sites across the state was to ascertain the progress of work achieved so far by the contractors handling the projects as well as ensure they keep to project specifications.

The Ministry’s image maker added that Ohere commended the contractors, where necessary, made critical observations; advised amendments in some places; and instructed total removal and immediate replacement with superior materials in some other sites ensure the projects meet the standard of the governor and delivered within the stipulated time.

Projects the Commissioner visited, Eneojo added, were:first interchange flyover Bridge in the state capital at Ganaja Junction; Construction of Admin Block and renovation work at the Specialist Hospital; the ongoing replication of Eagle Square in the Confluence City – the Ultra modern civic centre, the embankment exercise of Lokoja Beach at Kpata among others.
