The Nigerian Air Force Officers’ Wives Association (NAFOWA), in Abuja,has graduated 50 students on various skills acquisition and vocational training programmes as part of efforts to reduce youth unemployment and boost the concept of self-reliance in the country.
The National President of the association, Mrs Elizabeth Amao, noted that the association’s mission was to carry out programmes and initiatives aimed at benefitting the less-privileged in the society, hence the reason behind the programme.
According her, the pprogram was designed to empower some of the officer’s wives, airmen’s wives, widows, barrack youths and members of the host communities.
She noted that the training was intense, adding that the graduands were engaged in their various fields, such as baking, wig making, event decoration, hair dressing, among others.
“I urge all the participants to make good use of the knowledge that has been passed to you.
“We will also be providing starter packs to you to enable you start off in the labour market.”
Amao, however, them for going through the rigorous training successfully.
“I know a lot of knowledge have been committed into your hands and I say to you, go and succeed.
She thanked the Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Oladayo Amao, for his support and assistance in making the programme a huge success.
The president also thanked other members of the association as well as the facilitators from Pato-Binto Ltd. and Industrial Training Fund (ITF) for making the programme a success.
“I appreciate your hard work and commitment over these past weeks. We thank you for your assistance for realising NAFOWA’s dream and vision.
“To the graduands, I wish you well and pray for success in your future endeavours.”
Earlier, the CAS, who was represented by the Chief of Policy and Plans, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Headquarters, AVM Remigus Ekeh, commended the association for its relentless efforts in providing succour to the needy.
The CAS noted that the association had remained glued to its mission of providing succour for the less-previlleged in the society.
“It is heartwarming to note that the association has continued to add value to human existence, through its capacity building initiatives and providing succour to the less-ptivileged in the society.”
He, however, urged the graduands to make good use of the knowledge they acquired during the programme, especially the starter-packs given to them in their future endeavour.
The representative of the graduands, Mrs Joy Efiong, thanked the president of the association and other members for the wonderful opportunity given to them to be trained in their various fields.
Efiong noted that the gesture would go a long way in alleviating the hardship they had been going through especially as a widow.
“We must confess, we are very grateful to the association for the wonderful opportunity and for the first time in our lives, for putting smiles on our faces.
“We assure the association that we are going to make best use of the starter-packs given to us. We will try on our own little way to train other people and be employers of labour.
