The Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, on Monday, donated N2.5 million towards the medical bill of Mrs Obahopo who was involved in a ghastly motor accident on Okene-Kabba road barely a week ago during which five persons lost their lives and other victims sustained varied degrees of injury.

The Victim is the wife of the Kogi State Correspondent of Vanguard newspaper, Mr Bolu Obahopo.

Mrs Obahopo, bed ridden in a hospital in Abuja.

The Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo, who delivered the money to Obahopo, on behalf of the governor, assured the Correspondent that Bello” stands with the Obahopo family over the sad incident”.

“The Governor is sad over this unfortunate incident. He has been very concerned about the medical State of the Wife of Mr Bolu Obahopo and has expressed confidence that the woman will pull through.

“He has mandated me to follow up and ensure I feed him with situation report. He said he will stand with the family throughout the duration of treatment,”Fanwo said.

Mr Obahopo who received the donation said:“I don’t know what to say. My Governor has stepped in to save the life of my wife and I will be eternally grateful.

“This is what he does for journalists. He has proven, over and over again, that he is a true friend of the journalists,” Obahopo said.

Our Correspondent recalls that Obahopo, who also lost his step mother in the accident, had earlier solicited financial assistance from members of the public and organisations, to come to his aid, to save the life of his wife, who is billed for surgery in Abuja in a short while.

The Nigeria Union Journalists (NUJ),the state chapel, during a news conference called by its Chairman,Comrade Adeiza Momojimoh on Monday, also called on the government and good spirited members of the public to donate toward money towards saving the life of Mrs Obahopo.

Meanwhile, the Kogi State council of NUJ has expressed deepest appreciation to Governor Bello for his timely release of N2.5m to offset the medical bills of Mrs Obahopo.

This is contained in a statement signed by the council chairman, Adeiza Momohjimoh and the secretary, Ademu Seidu in Lokoja on Monday, following an appeal by the council during a news conference, to the Governor and good spirited individuals to come to the aid of Mr Bolu Obahopo.

“His Excellency’s action today has further demonstrated the fact that he has the milk of human kindness in his vein.

“The money, no doubt, would provide huge relief to the family and also ease the pains of the victim.

“The Kogi Council of NUJ therefore thanks His Excellency, Gov. Yahaya Bello, for this wonderful support for the family of Mr Bolu Obahopo and by extension, all working journalists in the state.

“We wish to reassure His Excellency of the Union’s unalloyed support and cooperation to him, now and in the future.

“We also pray for the success of the surgery to be carried out on the Wife of the Vanguard Correspondent and thank all that have supported the family and the union since the unfortunate incident occurred,”the two officials said.
