Police search for abducted UniAbuja staff, children

The Police Command in the Federal Capital Territory,(FCT), says it has swung into action to rescue four staff of the University of Abuja and their children by gunmen in the early hours of Tuesday.

The Police Commissioner in charge of the command, Babaji Sunday, stated this on Tuesday in Abuja while reacting to the attack which took place at the staff quarters of the University located in Giri area of the FCT on Tuesday.

According to him, the Command has dispatched additional tactical and conventional policing resources to the main and satellite campuses of the university for the safety of the residents, in a statement signed by
the FCT Police Public Relations Officer(PPRO),Josephine Adeh.

“A combined team of the police and personnel of the Nigerian Army, 176 Guards Battalion, were swiftly mobilised to the area to protect the citizens,” Sunday added.

He advised the residents to be calm, promising that the security forces had been working, assidiously, with the locals in the area toward rescuing the victims.

The Commissioner assured the residents that the perpetrators would be arrested and brought to book.

In the same vein,the public relations officer (PRO) for the institution, Dr. Habib Yakoob, also confirmed the incident, adding that safety officers, in conjunction with other security personnel, had been mobilised to secure the staff quarters.
