No fewer than 23 persons were burnt to death and property valued at N413, 632, 000.00 destroyed in Nasarawa state due to fire incidences in the state state, from January to September 2021.
The state Acting Director of fire Service, Mrs Hannatu D. George, made the disclosure in Lafia on Thursday while briefing Journalists on the activities of the Department within the period under review.
According to her,four persons were rescued from the inferno while the department also rendered seven special services.
George, the first female to head the Department since the creation of the state, re-affirmed the organization’s preparedness to fight all forms of fire outbreak in the area.
George, however, appealed to the state government to sink boreholes in each of the fire service offices in the state, assuring that the effort, if implemented, would go a long way in assisting members of staff of the department in fighting fire outbreak effectively.
The acting Director, who was full of praises to the state government for providing a standard and well furnished office complex to organization,further appealed to the state government to include staff of the fire service department in the list of organisations benefiting from professional allowances, to boost their morale.
She also disclosed that the organization is in dire need of man power as well as fire Fighting vehicles and called on the government to come to the aid of the department in that regard.
George commended staff of the department for their hard work and dedication to duty and urged them not to rest on their oars.
