Digital Telemetry, Manual weather stations come alive in Omala, Dekina LGAs

The people of Bagana in Omala Local Governnent and their counterparts in Anyigba, Dekina Local Governnent Areas of Kogi state, on Thursday, jumped for joy over flooding and associated unfavourable weather which will soon be a thing of the past in the two areas.

This followed commissioning of Telemetry and Manual weather stations at Bagana in Omala LGA and Kogi state university Anyigba in Dekina Local Government Area by Governor of the state, Alhaji Yahaya Bello.

Our Correspondent gathered that the stations will contribute, greatly, in checking the tide of flooding and associated weather challenges facing the two areas and the state at large.

The Governor,who was represented by the Commissioner for Environment, Mr Victor Adewale Omofaiye who commissioned the Telemetry equipment, urged the people concerned to support Governor Yahaya Bello-led administration in ensuring that the equipment were judiciously use.

He noted that the equipment in the stations would be beneficial to the people, adding that data collected through it would be used to improve on fishing and farming activities, the major occupations of the area.

Bello advised the people to adhere strictly to the safety measures when threat of flash flooding and actual flooding occurred.

The Coordinator of the project, Barr. Ladi Ahmed Jatto, louded Governor Bello for the timely release of funds for the project and called on the community to guard and protect the equipment from being vandalised or carted away.

At the Kogi State University (KSU), Anyigba , the governor commended the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Marietu Tenuche, for her enthusiasm, citing rousing treatment given to the visiting team to butress his observation.

The Governor noted that although there were competing demands for such equipment, he chose the University to show his love for the institution.

He stressed the need for the people take adequate care of the equipment and put them into optimal use.

According to him, data collected from the equipment would aid teaching and learning by the students in the department of Geography and allied courses.

In her speech at the occasion, Jatto congratulated the Vice Chancellor and the University community for the choice of the University for the installation of the state-of-the-art equipment and called for its adequate protection.

Telemetry, according to Wikipedia, is the in situ collection of measurements or other data at remote points and their automatic transmission to receiving equipment (telecommunication) for monitoring.
