Male and female officers in the Nigeria Police Force have been encouraged to institute marriage within the force as a way of strengthening the bond of unity among them.

The Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba Alkali, gave the advice in Minna during his one day working visit to the Police Command in Niger state over the weekend.

He also urged the officers to, ‘put aside the idea of looking for good husbands and wives outside and start searching inwards’.

Alkali told his officers and men to change the narratives by proving Nigerians and indeed the whole world wrong, by exhibiting the best morals in words and character.

The IGP had told the police gathering, including the ranks and file that “among the police fold are good men and ladies, you could get married to in order to enhance the good working relationship and to further bond between them.”

IGP Alkali said, “We have some handsome single men and beautiful ladies among us.I would like to advise us to start taking wives and husbands from our colleagues, to buttress our already existing working relationship to that of full family affairs.

“By so doing, the good working relationship that exists among the personnel will go beyond the normal office relationship and help to improve confidence and harmony go a long way in providing courage and strength to our service,”he added.

The police, boss who also emphasised the need for police family to ensure morally sound upbringing of their children, said, “I think it will be a welcome idea if we see how we can build a better family here than going outside to look for a good wife.

“When you inculcate right morals in your children and wards, on the need to be good ambassadors in the barracks or while in service, they will grow up to become responsible citizens that the parents will be proud of in the future.

While commending efforts of the state Police Community Relations Committee, (PCRC) and supportive vigilante groups in the state in checking crime and criminality, by restoring peace across troubles parts of the state, Alkali prayed that such feat be sustained.
