Troops of Operation SAFE HAVEN (OPSH),Jos,Plateau state, say they have bursted activities of a drug syndicate and recovered 320 blocks containing substance suspected to be Indian hemp, worth N9.5 million.
The OPSH’s Information officer, Major Ishaku Takwa, in a statement available to Journalists on Sunday in Jos said the suspects, ex-Sgt Patrick Kalu(60),who is a retired police officer and a civilian,Friday Kalu, (40) were arrested by troops of OPSH during stop and search operation at Manchok Riom road.
The OPSH image maker also disclosed that the suspected Indian hemp was concealed in a Toyota Camry car with registration number Abuja ABC 214 HV.
He said the suspects alleged that they were contracted to convey the illicit substance from Ondo State to Yola, Adamawa State.
Items recovered from the suspects,he added, include 320 blocks of substance suspected to be cannabis, a Toyota Camry car with registration Number Abuja, ABC 214 HV, a police identity card, 2 Nokia phones and two wallets containing N16,100 Sixteen Thousand and another N2,940 only.
Major Takwa said that the suspects and items recovered had been handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency,(NDLEA), Plateau State command for further investigation.
Major Takwa qouted the Commander of OPSH, Major General Ibrahim Ali, as having commended troops for their vigilance and reiterated the determination of his command to flush out criminal elements on the Plateau and its environs.
General Ali said OPSH would not rest on its oars until criminals and their collaborators were annihilated.
He, therefore, urged law abiding citizens to continue to support security agencies with credible information on criminal activities.
