Gunmen kill 4 in kogi, injure others

Gunmen have attacked Bagana community in Omala Local Government Area of kogi state, leaving at least, four persons dead and scores injured.

Our Correspondent gathered that the gunmen stormed the community in the late hours of Tuesday night, attacking people at random.

One of the survivors of the gunmen’s attack who but begged for anonymity, told our correspondent that the gunmen invaded a provision shop located in the heart of the village and opened fire, killing four persons on the spot.

He added that the attackers then went on shooting spree forcing many people to flee, adding that in the confusion,some people were hit by stray bullets.

He disclosed tha four dead bodies include one Alias Barrister, a diesel oil dealer and a dispensary staff of the Local Government Health Centre at Ogba, residing in Bagana.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the Police Command in the state, DSP William Aya, said one Usman Salifu called the DPO in charge of the local government, on phone around 9.30p.m on Tuesday, that his shop had been attacked by gunmen.

According to Aya, Salifu said the attack led to the death of his sales boy, Bashir Sule and three other customers, coupled with other victims that sustained various degrees of injury.

He added that on receipt of the distress call, the DPO mobilised his men to the scene and evacuated some of the injured to the Hospital for treatment, adding that the command had commenced manhunt for the perpetrators, fir them to face the book.

The police image maker, who said that peace had returned to the community,urged the people to return home to continue with their legitimate businesses.

Meanwhile, a new Commissioner,Idris Dauda,posted to the state has assumed duty with a call on the Journalists, traditional rulers and other members of the society in the state to join hands with him in fighting against crime and criminality to the logical conclusion.

He promised to continue from where his predecessor,Ayuba Edeh, now AIG (zone 8, comprising kogi and Kwara states), stopped.
