Kogi State government says it has approved 350 solar powered streeet lights for Kabba township and another 462 for Lokoja to go follow soon.
The Commissioner for Works and Housing, Engr. Abubakar Ohere, disclosed this at the end of the State Executive Council Meeting in the Government House, Lokoja on Thursday.
According to him, the decision for the provision of the facility is part of government’s efforts at ensuring urban renewal and facelift for infrastructure in the state.
He further revealed that residents of Lokoja metropolis, the State capital and Kabba township would soon begin to experience ‘exciting night life” as government approved installation of solar powered street lights to give the towns befitting look.
He said:”Approval for the project and several others were given during today’s State Executive Council meeting held at the Exco Chamber of the Government House, Lokoja, the state capital and presided over by Governor Yahaya Bello.
Ohere said the project was awarded to Messrs New Moon Nig.Ltd at the cost of One hundred and Five Million, in addition to the award of contract for the construction of the 2-kilometre road to the College of Education (Technical),kabba and another 2-kilometre road to the Obaro Palace.
Government, he pointed out, had prioritized development of the state, as part of the efforts to investi in critical projects, despite obvious financial challenges hindering development in other states and to ensure presence of government in every community across the state.
Other projects he said had advanced to stages of completion, include: Specialist Hospital, Idah, Prince Abubakar Audu University Teaching Hospital, Anyigba, and Idah- Ajaka- Umomi, put at 98 per cent completion.
He promised that these projects and several others, including roads, health, water, education and power projects ongoing across the state, would be delivered on schedule,to demonstrate Governor Bello’s keen interest in improving the living conditions of the people as well as
investing in life-changing projects in the state.
