The Kogi State Government has launched an intensive multi-agency security operation targeting worship centres, schools, and other vulnerable public locations in response to rising attacks in neighbouring states.
Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo issued the directive, prompting an emergency security meeting in Lokoja where heads of major security formations convened to reassess threats and implement immediate countermeasures.
The Chairman of Lokoja Local Government Area, Abdullahi Adamu, confirmed the activation of the new security framework following the closed-door meeting.
Providing further details, the Lokoja Area Commander of the Nigeria Police, ACP Abubakar Umar, stated that security agencies have resolved to expand surveillance and strengthen presence in remote and high-risk communities.
Under the new strategy, five joint task teams,comprising officers from the Police, NSCDC, DSS, and local vigilante groupswill conduct coordinated patrols around churches, mosques, schools, and other soft targets.
The teams will also discourage late-night gatherings in unsecured areas, according to him.
ACP Umar explained that the operation will begin immediately with the mapping of sensitive locations and rapid patrol deployment, followed by grassroots sensitisation campaigns and a statewide compliance initiative designed to warn potential attackers and reassure residents.
He appealed for community cooperation, emphasizing that the proactive measures aim to prevent avoidable attacks and reinforce Kogi’s reputation as one of Nigeria’s most secure states.
