The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Niger state council, has expressed shock over the death of a professional colleague, Mrs. Jemima Sadiq Bassi of the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) Minna.

The Council, in a condolence message signed by its Secretary, Comrade Usman Chiji, described the death of Bassi as a great loss not only to her immediate family and the NTA but also the entire practising journalists in the state.

“The NUJ is pained by the demise of Jemima, but is consoled by the fact that she lived a life worthy of emulation as a mother, colleague and friend to all who knew her and as well,as a role model and respected female journalist”.

The union noted with satisfaction the fact that late Bassi, throughout her foray in journalism, brought to bare her wealth of experience and innovations, reflected in all her reports.

“Late Jemima Bassi would be missed not only by her immediate and extended families but those who may have come across her, both public and private life, she was a very jovial, highly skillful but disciplined personality.

“Jemima Sadiq Bassi was a simple, committed, hardworking journalist who devoted her life and time to the service of God and humanity. NUJ will always remember her for her steadfastness, sincerity, fear of God and love for her chosen career,” the union said.

Members, therefore, prayed that God grant the deceased eternal rest and those she left behind, including her family, management and staff of NTA Minna, the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
