The National Chairperson, Women in Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools(WASUSS), Comrade Ranti Gbenle Oluwemimo,has urged Women in Kogi State to develop learning and academic skills that help them build stamina and confidence in the pursuit of gender issues.
Comrade Oluwemimo said in addition to developing stamina to pursue self actualization women all over the world should also unite and use their gender as strength in achieving their goals and aspirations.
The chairperson noted that the time had come for women all over the world to brace up to the challenges ahead of them, knowing that with dedication and commitment, they would succeed.
She paid glowing tribute to the doggedness of great women activists in Nigeria such as Queen Amina and Funmilayo Kuti all of the blessed memory,who started the fight and contributed immensely for the rights of women.
Contributing, the National President of the Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools(ASUSS), Comrade Omaji Samuel Oyigocho, stressed the need for a girl-child to be educated on her rights and privileges, on time, to enable her deal with the contemporary challenges that bedevil her.
The Guest speaker and lecturer of the occasion, Eunice Abimbola Agbogun,called on teachers to take good care of themselves, health wise to enable them give quality teaching so to students such as effective management of stress.
Agbogun,who is the Director, Challenged Parenthood Initiative (CPI),made the call when she spoke on “Stress and Health Management- A post covid strategy for Academic excellence” at the occasion.
According to her, a lot of effects that come up as a result of stress, like poor dressing habits, poor concentration, temper problems and withdrawal from social activities can be avoided, if stress is properly managed.
Our Correspondent reports that women who distinguished themselves in their various fields and for their excellent contributions to WASUSS as well as the lives of women in the State were presented with awards.
They include;the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Folashade Ayoade Arike, the Head of Service, Mrs. Hannah Odion, the Chairman, Science and Technical Education and Teaching Service Commission (STESCOM), Mrs Cecilia Enezoza Cook and Comrade Bishop Olaoye Marylance.
Other dignitaries that graced the occasion were; the representative of the Kogi State Chapter of Nigerian Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Female Principals of Schools, State Controller, Federal Ministry of Labour, Lokoja, Mrs. Olugbami and Comrade Fausat Shuaib, National Chairperson, Trade Union Commission among others.
